Borough of Newham Lodge No. 8627
Established on April 10, 1975, Borough of Newham Lodge No. 8627 was founded by seven dedicated members who shared a vision of promoting the values of Freemasonry in East London. As a small and friendly Lodge, we are proud to be part of the vibrant Freemasonry community in the Borough of Newham.
Consecrated on 10th April 1975, the Borough of Newham Lodge No. 8627 initially met and dined at Ilford Conservative Club, where they held their meetings for several years. Among its founders were members, officers, and contractors of the London Borough of Newham. Over time, the Lodge met at various venues, including Nan’s Pantry, West Ham United Supporters Club, and even the West Ham United Football Ground, before returning briefly to Ilford Conservative Club. They now meet at Chingford Masonic Hall.
The Lodge's first Master was W.Bro Bill Watts, and the first Secretary was W.Bro John Turner.
We hold four formal meetings each year at Chingford Masonic Hall, located at 4 Forest View, Chingford, Essex, E4 7AZ. In addition to our formal meetings, our members meet weekly in Newham to foster fellowship and camaraderie, creating lasting friendships and support among one another.
Our Lodge is committed to the principles of brotherhood, charity, and personal growth. We actively engage in various charity events within the Newham area, aiming to make a positive impact in our community and support those in need.
Looking ahead, we are excited to celebrate our 50th anniversary in 2025, marking half a century of dedication to the values of Freemasonry and our ongoing service to others.
